Crown of Thronz - NYHC Documentary

Crown of Thornz - N.Y.H.C. Documentary Soundtrack
SFT Records (1997, SFT 13)

Vocals - Ezec
Guitar - Mike Dijan
Drums - Dimi
Bass - Steve O.

The two tracks included on the soundtrack to the NYHC documentary were from a show at Coney Island High. The show wasn't that packed due to the weather and another big show going on the same night. It was a trip to play and the video below says it all. We start playing, Mike's guitar gets kicked out and a huge fight breaks out with Mike's brother, James. This was standard protocol at COT shows.

I will say though after all these years James was right...the guy did sucker punch him.

Crown of Thornz - Mentally Vexed

Crown of Thornz - Mentally Vexed
Another Planet Records (1996, AP-6018-2)

Vocals - Ezec
Guitar - Mike Dijan
Drums - Dimi
Bass - Steve O.

This album was recorded at Normandy Sound in Rhode Island. This is the same studio that recorded Sick of it All, Cro Mags, Leeway, Rest in Pieces, Judge and....New Kids on the Block and their brother's band Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. All done by the same producer Tom Soares. The entire album was recorded in three days. The recording is pretty solid and captured the fury of Crown of Thornz.

When I played in this band we would never practiced before a show and would play great. When we did practice the show never went well.

Due to Ezec we played just about ever good show in NYC in the mid 90's. Crown of Thornz was basically the house band for Coney Island High. H2O's first show was opening us for us in Queens. We also played John Joseph's benefit to get him out of the Navy's jail.

Every show I played with Crown of Thornz was adventure. When would the first fight break out or stage diver would kick out my equipment. All good times.....

Science Diet - Thru the Igloo

Science Diet - Thru the Igloo
Behemoth Sound Recordings (1996, BS006)
Guitar/Vocals - Chris
Drums - Jerry
Bass - Steve O.

Recorded with Geoff Turner (Archers of Loaf, Superchunk, Hellbender). I wasn't really involved in the mixing. We played a lot of shows on Long Island. I think maybe with 7 Seconds. Eric from Farckus Affair played bass after I left.

The music always reminded me of Fireburn and Into Another. Heavy, complicated parts with multiple changes. Not too crazy about the sound effects throughout the record but overall a good record.

To quote the review from
Under the Volcano #35:

"Science Diet sound like a Dischord band that drank some Evian spiked with LSD. Spidery guitar, dreamy vocals, and more part changes than you can shake a stick at. I always really liked these guys, though many of you might find they try your attention span a little too much. Also included on this disc is a cover of The Cure's "The Forest" which had become a Science Diet favorite live. Nice package with illustrations that will convince you the walls are melting."

The Farckus Affair - Anytown High: Sinatra '65/The Farckus Affair Split 7"

The Farckus Affair - Mazurka
Anytown High: Sinatra '65/The Farckus Affair Split 7"
Motherbox Records
(1993, MB005)
Guitar/Vocals - Kevin
Guitar/Vocals - Eric
Drums - Vinny
Bass - Steve O.

"Mazurka" was recorded and mixed in one night at a studio in Seaford, NY. Right after mixing I had to drive to work at 5am. Our friend, Steve Chisum, knew Paul from Motherbox and that is how we ended up on the split. I left the band shortly after recording to go to college. The Farckus Affair also released “The Farkcus Affair” 7” (1994, Reservoir Records, Reservoir 009).

Vinny went on to playing No Redeeming Social Value, Coldfront, Warzone, Grey Area and Kill Your Idols. Kevin played with Dahlia Seed and Eric with Fountainhead and Last Crime.
